Woah, this is boss。 Is it the end of the series? It feels like it has concluded for sure, which makes me a bit sad, but on the other hand this story was so great。 🥰😍 I suppose I will have to enjoy the rest of season 2 on the Hilda cartoon for more in this ‘verse。

This book goes beyond where season two of Hilda (on Netflix) leaves the audience with a cliff hanger。 What happens next is so cool。 It really brings us closer to mother nature。

Yay! This whole series is heartwarming。

As can be expected of Hilda, this is an adventurous, charming story。 I loved it。 This volume picks up where the Netflix series has currently left off, and tells an intriguing story about the trolls of the mountains。 There is heavy focus on "never taking a mother's love for granted", though, which falls into the trope of "inherent family goodness" I always find suspect in kids books (as the wife of someone with CPTSD From growing up with a terrible family)。 Like, should a kid who received regular As can be expected of Hilda, this is an adventurous, charming story。 I loved it。 This volume picks up where the Netflix series has currently left off, and tells an intriguing story about the trolls of the mountains。 There is heavy focus on "never taking a mother's love for granted", though, which falls into the trope of "inherent family goodness" I always find suspect in kids books (as the wife of someone with CPTSD From growing up with a terrible family)。 Like, should a kid who received regular emotional abuse from mom still never take her love for granted? This is far from the main point of the book, but it is something to keep in mind。 Otherwise, I absolutely loved it。 。。。more

I haven’t read the other Hildafolk graphic novels yet, but I couldn’t wait another year to find out what happens next, so I ordered this graphic novel and it is as amazing as the series。 The Netflix show seemed so magical and I loved it from the day I watched the first episode and finished it in a day。 Then I obviously had to wait for season two, because being me I didn‘t realize it was a graphic novel adaption。 Good that I realized it now, better late than never, because I loved this graphic no I haven’t read the other Hildafolk graphic novels yet, but I couldn’t wait another year to find out what happens next, so I ordered this graphic novel and it is as amazing as the series。 The Netflix show seemed so magical and I loved it from the day I watched the first episode and finished it in a day。 Then I obviously had to wait for season two, because being me I didn‘t realize it was a graphic novel adaption。 Good that I realized it now, better late than never, because I loved this graphic novel。 It is as magical as the show and I really enjoyed it。 It contained a plot twist which I did expected, so it was kind of predictable but I still loved how it turned out in the end。I will for sure buy the other graphic novels as well。 The only thing I am kind of sad about is that they changed the design and the style of the Charakters because of the Netflix adaptation。 。。。more

Another great story of Hilda and her town。 Getting yet a little bit deeper into the troll matter。 And I simply love the graphics!

Delightful。 We love Hilda, Twig, Mom, and the gang。 Crafty narrative suffice for parents, troll babies saying “Ba!” and adventure makes it fun for kids。 A series we can enjoy and learn something new from with every read。

I love Hilda。 I first encountered this adventurer in the Netflix series, then the comic (graphic novel?), and finally this book form。 My favorite is, I think, the comic with the show a close second。 I rated the book 3 stars because I like it less compared to the others。 However if I found this on its own I think I’d give it 4。 This is the delightful story of an adventuring girl who lives with her mother and deer fox in the wilderness。 She’s intensely curious and quite interested in getting to kn I love Hilda。 I first encountered this adventurer in the Netflix series, then the comic (graphic novel?), and finally this book form。 My favorite is, I think, the comic with the show a close second。 I rated the book 3 stars because I like it less compared to the others。 However if I found this on its own I think I’d give it 4。 This is the delightful story of an adventuring girl who lives with her mother and deer fox in the wilderness。 She’s intensely curious and quite interested in getting to know (usually in a friendly way) any creature that crosses her path。 She’s also nosy, opinionated and a bit careless。 The writing (for book, comic and show) is smart and funny。 And there are interesting themes to ponder, like whose place is this? And how do you cope with difference? Is there room here for your kind and my kind? I highly recommend Hilda in any of its three forms。 。。。more

"Hilda's" the best。 Energetic, mysterious, and absorbing。Too many people sleep on both the comic and the series。 I wish the series' sticker wasn't printed as part of the cover, though。 "Hilda's" the best。 Energetic, mysterious, and absorbing。Too many people sleep on both the comic and the series。 I wish the series' sticker wasn't printed as part of the cover, though。 。。。more

Was not expecting the Hilda series to also have a discussion on war and motherhood?? Another amazing addition to the series。

The visual and narrative imagination in this series just keeps getting broader and deeper。 The animated series is great, but the graphic novels are just absolutely perfect, and this one is no exception。 Trolls!

I'm definitely a fan of all Hilda books。 Here's a character who is not inappropriate or predictable。 She's brave even when terrified and strong even when transformed into a troll。 Really, Pearson writes through all the mythology without a sideglance so Hilda shines as a character in a real world, even though hers is wild and weird and wonderfully foreign。 I'm definitely a fan of all Hilda books。 Here's a character who is not inappropriate or predictable。 She's brave even when terrified and strong even when transformed into a troll。 Really, Pearson writes through all the mythology without a sideglance so Hilda shines as a character in a real world, even though hers is wild and weird and wonderfully foreign。 。。。more

The final (for now) 'Hilda' comic - and wow! It is my favourite。I'll go about writing this review without revealing any direct spoilers, but I will start by saying that 'Hilda and the Mountain King' might be one of the best, most well-written fantasy stories I've encountered in recent memory。 The stakes have never been higher - externally and internally - and it's so emotional, heartfelt and genuine! How daring and quite scary。 In addition, what a beautifully told story about tolerance and equality, and not using violence, fear and hatred to solve conflicts。Okay, one slight spoiler: The main theme of 'Mountain King' is that a mother's love is the most powerful thing that exists。 And don't mess with Mother Nature, whatever you do。Hilda and her mum won't be the only characters who receive a happy ending (they more than deserve it)。 And thank goodness there is no romance so far in the series in any shape or form。 Subversive storytelling - in bountiful ways - at its finest。 What simple yet outstanding approaches 'Hilda' takes!Dramatic and wonderful。 Great job, Luke Pearson, in creating a fantastic character and book。Final Score: 5/5 。。。more

Quite possibly my favorite Hilda so far! This book picks up directly from where we left off at the end of "Hilda and the Stone Forest"。 It can be read as a stand-alone (there's a page that catches you up on the story), but I do recommend reading these in order。 The last adventure is perhaps the most exciting, and the stakes are high。 As a side note: I always have to mention this, but these books are still amazing。 The covers are really nice with their fabric back and matte covers with glossy deta Quite possibly my favorite Hilda so far! This book picks up directly from where we left off at the end of "Hilda and the Stone Forest"。 It can be read as a stand-alone (there's a page that catches you up on the story), but I do recommend reading these in order。 The last adventure is perhaps the most exciting, and the stakes are high。 As a side note: I always have to mention this, but these books are still amazing。 The covers are really nice with their fabric back and matte covers with glossy details。 The art is cute。 I highly recommend these to kids and adults alike, if you enjoy a good children's book。(view spoiler)[What I enjoyed the most was probably the inter-species exchange aspect。 The notion that some of Hilda's qualities that have always made it hard for her to blend in in the human society might be precisely why she fits in somewhere else, like among the trolls, is nice。 And likewise some of the trolls, like Baba, could actually be quite human-like, to the point of not quite fitting in with the trolls。 But instead of having to change themselves or move away from their kind, it seems to help both Hilda and Baba to have a healthy mix of both influences in their lives。 Hilda gets to blow off steam by being wild and wandering outside the city walls with her new troll friends and Baba gets to come to town to enjoy teaparties and the like。 On a small scale, that's a wonderful resolution for Hilda and Baba, maybe even their mothers。 On a bigger scale, such cultural exchange could revolutionalize their whole world, now that the two sides have opened communications ever so slightly (I know the language barrier still exists, but still)。 It's a hopeful ending, although the book does imply that there's still those who are suspicious about the current peace。 Naturally。 Change is scary and not always welcome。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Hilda is grounded by her mother, but they both wake in the morning to a terrible surprise。 Hilda has been replaced with a changeling! While they try to find one another, Trolberg is on the precipice of an all-out war with the trolls。 Hilda finds an imprisoned troll that promises to help in exchange for her assistance and her mother leads a troll hunter into the heart of the cave。 Can they avoid certain demise? So fun as usual, with a fulfilling ending。

The 6th volume and this time tons of trolls, revelations, and a few moments that brought tears to my eyes。I read this one in Dutch, but wrote my review in English so more people can read it。I just LOVE the Hilda series。 Well, OK, when I first started the series years ago I wasn’t such a big fan of Hilda。 But now after re-reading the series again, watching the show on Netflix when it aired, and read the books that were made after that (which features some parts of the show/GNs but also have new m The 6th volume and this time tons of trolls, revelations, and a few moments that brought tears to my eyes。I read this one in Dutch, but wrote my review in English so more people can read it。I just LOVE the Hilda series。 Well, OK, when I first started the series years ago I wasn’t such a big fan of Hilda。 But now after re-reading the series again, watching the show on Netflix when it aired, and read the books that were made after that (which features some parts of the show/GNs but also have new material), I can say I love the series, Hilda is an amazing and strong character。This one continues where the 5th volume left off。 Hilda wakes up as a troll, and we see her place at home in the city has been taken by a troll child。 From that point we see two POVs。 Hilda’s as she tries to figure out how to get home, how to become human, how to make things normal again。 Hilda’s mom as she desperately tries to get Hilda back。 I definitely had a few moments during Hilda’s mom’s POV that I was tearing up。 I loved how, despite all the dangers, she kept searching, kept looking, kept thinking of new ideas。Along the way we learn more about the city, about the trolls that live so close to it。 Continuing on the last volume, we see that the trolls are getting closer to the city。 Not always because they want to, but because something is luring them to it。 I loved that this was added。 That not only do we see Hilda trying to get back, but that we also get an explanation on what is going on with the trolls。 Because the trolls aren’t all bad。 Yes, sure, some of them are, but this also goes for humans。I do wish that Hilda thought a bit more about things, those bells weren’t hung for nothing, yet she thinks nothing of it。The ending had me tearing up and smiling。 It was just so wonderful, and it explains so much about the trolls。 I am glad that thanks to this ordeal Hilda learned to talk to trolls so she could help out with the situation。I do hope that this doesn’t mean the end of the series though。 Given the ending (which I loved), I am a bit worried。 I want more Hilda, and I am sure this world is still full with stories left to tell。 Adventures to have。 crosses fingersAll in all, a beautiful and gorgeous volume and I would highly recommend this and the other books。Review first posted at https://twirlingbookprincess。com/ 。。。more
